Jimmie Stroud Hensley, of Houston, passed away at his residence on Thursday, December 30, 2010, at age 88. Visitation will be Monday, January 3, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Tracy Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Parker Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Brent Aronson, Carl Robinson, Cameron Robinson, Richard Maly, Jr., John Waters, and Dennis Hensley. Jimmie was born January 29, 1922, to Melvin Hensley and Lillie Maude Dillon Hensley in Groesbeck. He grew up in Mexia, Tx., and graduated from Mexia High School. He entered the U. S. Army Air Force in 1942, serving through 1945 during World War II, and again in the Korean War from 1950 through 1952 on the European Continent. He was discharged from the Air Force in July 1952. He then continued his education in Dallas, graduating college in 1957. Jimmie married Rita Waters on December 21, 1945, at Temple Baptist Church in Dallas. They resided in Dallas, Marshall, and Brigham City, Utah, and later settled in Houston. His work career included Thiokol Chemical Corporation, in the Marshall and Brigham City Division, serving as Director of Material Operations. While living in Houston, he operated and managed the family owned grocery business. Jimmie retired in 1998. Jimmie's grandchildren, Candra and Cameron, were his whole world. He was a 32nd. Degree Mason, a member of AM-FM Lodge #22 at Marshall, TX, and was also a member of the Brigham City Elks Lodge #73. He was a member of Sagemont Church in Houston. Mr. Hensley was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Lillie Hensley; sister, Juanita Francis of Woodville; brothers, Dick Hensley, Jess Jones, and Pete Jones of Kilgore; and niece, Joyce Modica of Woodville. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rita Hensley; daughter and son-in-law, Jina and Carl T. Robinson of Pasadena; granddaughter, Candra Robinson Maly and husband Richard Maly, Jr. of Pearland; grandson, Cameron Robinson of Pasadena; sister, Agnes Brazeal of Woodville; niece, Myrtis Martindale of Woodville; and nephew, Altus Brazeal of Woodville.
