Mildred Lucille Castleberry

Mildred Lucille Castleberry, of Groesbeck, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011, at the Limestone Medical Center, at age 89. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 18, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Troy Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Parker Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mike Sutton, Larry Wilson, Ritchie Wilson, Danny Hewitt, Rand Bates, and Charles King. Mildred was born September 4, 1921 in rural Limestone County to Henry Lee Alexander and Jewel Alexander. She was one of seven girls in the family. She grew up and attended school in the Fort Parker community. Mildred married J. T. Beaver, and four children were born of this union. Mildred was a homemaker, living and raising her family in Groesbeck. After her children were older, she went to work at the Mexia State School, where she worked twenty-two years before retiring. Mildred was united in marriage with Luther “Buck” Castleberry on November 22, 1972 in Groesbeck, where they continued to make their home the rest of her life. She was a wonderful cook, who liked to prepare great holiday meals for the family; she also enjoyed reading, and watching baseball on T.V., being a big fan of the Texas Rangers. In the last few years, she also had great enjoyment in playing with her three cats, who kept her company during many pleasant hours of watching baseball. She loved the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mildred was a member of the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Shirley Davis (in 2000); former husband J. T. Beaver; and all six of her sisters. She is survived by her husband, Luther Eugene “Buck” Castleberry of Groesbeck; son, James Beaver of Stephenville; son Bobby Beaver of Palmer; daughter, Kay Dawley and husband Fred of Groesbeck; and stepdaughter, Helen Ann Nelson of McGregor; also, her six grandchildren, Stacy Stone of Palmer, Lynn Latham of Huntsville, AL, James “Jimbo” Beaver of Ennis, Nicole Dawley of Groesbeck, Matthew Dawley of Groesbeck, and Beth Reed of Livingston; and four great grandchildren.
