Hazel Dale Pollock, of Arlington (and formerly of Groesbeck), passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Arlington, at age 96. Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Carl Willis of the Oasis Baptist Church of Arlington officiating. Burial will follow in the Faulkenberry Cemetery. Hazel was born August 18, 1914, to Willis Harvey Briggs and Zillie Arcadia (Stanford) Briggs in Mexia. She grew up and attended school in Groesbeck. Hazel was united in marriage with Wayne Floyd Pollock on November 5, 1932 in Groesbeck and they lived and farmed for awhile in the LaSalle community. They moved to Arlington, where he was employed until his retirement with Vought Aircraft. After retirement, they moved back to Groesbeck, where they lived east of town until Mr. Pollock passed away. After a few years, Hazel moved back to Arlington to be near her daughters, and lived there twenty years. Hazel was an active member of the Bethel Baptist Church when she lived at Groesbeck, and later a member of the Grace Temple Baptist Church in Arlington. Hazel was legally blind for many years, but she crocheted by “feel” and donated many afghans and items she made for the church to sell. And even though her sight was too hampered to drive, she loved to drive the riding mower, until the family banned her from it at age 94. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wayne Pollock in 1988; her son, Wayland Pollock in 2003; and all her siblings. She is survived by daughter, Maureen Hogue of Mabelvale, Arkansas; daughter, Dorothy Lindly and husband Charles of Arlington; daughter, Mary Pollock of Arlington; five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren
