Jack Garland Hunt, of Kosse, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011, at the Elmwood Nursing Center in Marlin, at age 94. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Kosse City Cemetery, with Brother Jimmy Phillips officiating. Jack was born September 23, 1917 to Luther Hunt, Sr. and Lola (Snowden) Hunt at Kosse. He grew up and went to school in Kosse, and never left Kosse except for a brief time attending Brantley-Draughan Business College and working in Fort Worth. Jack was well known for his beautiful handwriting which he perfected in college. Jack was united in marriage with Marybeth Arnst in 1980 after many years of friendship. Jack had worked for his Dad at the Sinclair Agency in Kosse delivering fuel to farmers for many years, until he went to work as a clerk at the Kosse Post Office. He was appointed Postmaster at Kosse by President Lyndon B. Johnson, and he retired from the postal service after a forty-year career. After his retirement, he and Marybeth had a farm where they enjoyed tending their cattle. Jack was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kosse, where he served as Deacon for many years earlier in his life. In his later years, he enjoyed going to the Kosse Café for a good hearty breakfast with his friend Joe Pat Mills, and enjoyed being driven around by his nephew, Bill Hunt. He loved talking with people and never met a stranger. He was active until a fall in the past month, resulting in a broken hip. Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, L. B. Hunt, Jr. and his wife, Virginia Hunt; a nephew, John B. Hunt; nephew, Luther Davis; and his wife Marybeth “Beth” in 2008. He is survived by his nephew, William L. “Bill” Hunt of Groesbeck; nephew, James C. Hunt of North Richland Hills; nephew, Danny Davis of Lake Livingson; and Jan Coulter Hunt (the wife of his late nephew, John B. Hunt) of Benbrook; other nieces and nephews; and special friends, Joe Pat and Sue Mills.
