Jerry Layne "Booger Red" Martin, of Thornton, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Visitation will be Saturday, June 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Richard Williams of the Church of Christ in Groesbeck officiating. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wally Sherrod, Kelly Boyd, Frank Crowson, Randy Longenbaugh, Clint Thomas, Justin Duke, and Tim Longenbaugh. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Sadler, Orlis Winstead, Brad Hollign, and Rand Oil Company employees. Layne was born December 17, 1959, to Guy Martin, Jr. and Martha (Nettles) Martin in Groesbeck. He married Janet Thomas on July 5, 1982, and they have two children, Kendall and Cheyenne. He loved ranching and truck driving. He drove over many states and made many friends over the years. He loved outdoors and loved music. He lived in Old Union for thirty years, where he raised cows and kids. His greatest joy in life was raising his two kids. He lived to provide good things in life for his family. Layne is survived by his children, Kendall and Cheyenne and their mother, Janet; his parents, Red and Martha Martin; and his "other parents", Emmett and Leta Thomas; sister, Jayne Irby; nieces, Carla and Christen; nephew, Michael; and numerous other family.
