Leonard "Leo" Lance Ybarra, of Lewisville, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at age 23. Visitation will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Friday, August 3, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Leonard was born October 24, 1988 to Lucio Ybarra, Jr. and Isaura Vargas Ybarra at Mexia. He grew up in Groesbeck, going through the 11th. Grade in Groesbeck schools and graduating from Wortham High School in 2007. While in school, he worked at Walmart, and also enlisted in the U.S. Army a year before graduation. Upon graduation, he went to Fort Knox, Kentucky for bootcamp and AIT training in Edgewood, Maryland. He was stationed in Germany with the "Most Wanted PLT, 1st. Inland Cargo Transportation Company, 18th. Combat Support Battalion." He served one tour in Afghanistan, before his honorable discharge in 2010. Leo was a certified diesel mechanic, having received his training in the military. He worked for Salem Trucking Co. near Lewisville. Leo loved sports, especially basketball, and X-Box military games. He was very competitive in playing with his nieces and nephews. All his life, he was recognized and took pride in being “the beast” (the best) in his fashionable dressing. Leo was an outgoing people-person who never met a stranger, and who loved everyone. He was known as a loyal friend and cherished by his family. He had his school-companions family, his military family, and his real family, and kept an open line of communication with everyone. He was always ready to listen to anyone’s problems. His last days and hours were spent in close companionship with Miss Dynasty Anderson. Leonard was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lucio Ybarra, Sr. and Matilda R. Ybarra; and his maternal grandparents, Thomas Vargas, Sr. and Belia B. Vargas. He is survived by his parents, Lucio and Isaura Ybarra of Groesbeck; a sister, Linda Fish and husband Jason of Lorena; sister, Lisa Jefferson and husband Robbie of Streetman; brother, Lorenza Ybarra and wife Peggy of Groesbeck; sister, Lizabeth Doan of Henderson; brother, Lee Roy Ybarra and wife Teresa of Pensacola, FL; 6 nephews, Little Lee Roy Ybarra of Pensacola, FL, Joshua Doan of Henderson, Martel Jefferson, Coverson “CJ” Jefferson, Isaiah Jefferson all of Streetman, Daylen “Big D” Fish of Lorena; 5 nieces, Cecilia Ybarra and Aleecia “Peanut” Ybarra of Pensacola, FL, Alitza S. Ybarra of Groesbeck, Ashley Doan of Henderson, and Jaylah “Roo” Fish of Lorena. He also leaves behind his cherished companion, Miss Dynasty “DyDy” Anderson of Mexia.
