Mary Etta (Curry) Clay, known as Edna, surrounded by loving family and friends, went to be with her Lord on Friday, October 12, 2012, at the age of 96. A celebration of her life will be Sunday, October 14, 2012, at 3:00 P.M. in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dick Moody, Pastor of the Seniors at Tabernacle Baptist Church of Ennis will officiate. Music will be provided by her nieces, JoAnn Stone and Pam Yates and nephews, Kevin Stone and Dayne Duncan. Pallbearers will be her nephews, and her grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow in Faulkenberry Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, October 13, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Edna was born June 24, 1916, to Charlie Clifford Curry and Mary Ann Andrews Curry in the Big Hill Community. She was the oldest of seven children. She married the love of her life, Ray Clay, in Groesbeck, Texas, where they made their home. Ray preceded her in death on December 13, 1972. Ms. Clay was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Groesbeck and for many years sang in the choir. After moving to Ennis in 1995, she joined Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was active in her Sunday School class. Edna loved to sew, crochet, and took great pride in having a beautiful yard. She also had a sense of humor and often wrote a poem for her family on their birthdays. These usually provided great laughter and will always be treasured. She answered to many names in 96 years. Edna's most important title was that of Christian. She was a Godly woman who loved her Lord with all her heart. To her family, she was known as Edna, Sugar, Mom, Mommy Edna, Aunt Edna and Auntie. Each name was given with love and holds special memories to those who used them. She was a blessing and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers and sisters-in-law: S. J. Curry, D. C. and Marjorie Curry, Johnie and Ruby Curry; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and William Lebkowsky, Freddie and Leldon Ward; brother-in-law, Elmer Baulch; two nephews, Kenneth Curry and Charlie Curry. Edna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bill Blackmon, Sr. of Ennis; grandson, Bill Blackmon, Jr. and wife Debbie of China Spring; granddaughter and husband, Mendy and Larry Treadaway of Ennis; six great grandchildren: Dawn Blackmon, Brent Blackmon, and Lauren Blackmon, Tiffany Treadaway, Brianna Treadaway, and Logan Treadaway; one great-grandson, Bailey Blackmon; a sister, Olean Baulch of Groesbeck; and nieces, nephews, and friends.
