Isaac Davis Jones, of Thornton, passed away Friday, October 12, 2012 in the Windsor Healthcare Residence in Groesbeck, at age 90. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the Central Baptist Church of Thornton, with Reverend Tracy Sims officiating. Isaac was born June 12, 1922 in Kerens, TX to Jefferson Davis Jones and Ida (Jackson) Jones. He was a World War II Veteran, but his service to his country began when he was seventeen years old, and enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps. After working as a laborer in the CCC for five months in 1940, and upon his honorable discharge at Skull Creek, Colorado in September 1940, he enlisted in the National Guard. Isaac then enlisted in the U. S. Army in October 1942, served in the American Theater during the war, and was honorably discharged in December 1945. He immediately re-enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, at Lackland Air Force Base, where he continued serving his country until his honorable discharge. Isaac lived in Marlin most of his life, and worked at the Marlin VA and later the Temple VA for thirty-six years, until his retirement September 22, 1977. Isaac was married to Annie Mae Mercer for thirty-six years. He was a member of the Trinity Memorial Church while living in Marlin, and later a member of the Central Baptist Church of Thornton. Later in his life, he was united in marriage with Gertrude Swinnea and they lived in Thornton. They had been married for fifteen years when she passed away in March 2012. Isaac had many interests, including coin collecting (searching with metal detectors for lost coins) and collection rocks from which he made made jewelry and key rings as a hobby and gave as gifts. He had many friends in Kosse, Marlin, Thornton and Groesbeck. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Claudy Jones and Ferman Jones and his wife Gertrude Jones. He is survived by three children and their families: daughter, Ann Fryar of the Waco area; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Thelma Jones of Hearne; and son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Elizabeth Jones of Benbrook; ten grandchildren: Angela, Kristina, Christopher, Sally, Julia, Sandy, Brinson, Ryan,Austin and Chastity; and great grandchildren.
