Glenys Louise Hamalainen

Glenys Louise Hamalainen of Groesbeck, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Groesbeck LTC, at 92. Glenys was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on April 13, 1920 to Frederick Louis Collins and Goldie Edna (Davis) Collins. She grew up in Maine and lived most of her adult life in California. She moved to Groesbeck fifteen years ago to be with her family here. While living in California, Glenys raised her family and also worked for twenty-one years in the electronics industry for General Dynamics in airplane assembly. Glenys’ special love in life was the ocean, having lived five years on a sailboat. As a youth she lived near the Atlantic and lived her adult life near or on the Pacific ocean. All her adult life, she had beloved Siamese cats. She also collected Siamese décor. At home, she loved watching baseball on TV and when she moved to Texas, she adopted the Texas Rangers as her team. She had resided in Groesbeck LTC for the past six years, with her stuffed Siamese cat. Mrs. Hamalainen was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Frederick Collins, Jr.; her husband, Daniel Hamalainen; and a grandson, Jesse Morton. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Donna and Larry Bensen of Groesbeck, Denny and Rose Morton of Glen Ellen, CA, and Cynthia “Cyndi” and Donald Garvey of Oak Hills, CA; five stepchildren. Her eight grandchildren are: David Wurtz II and wife Darla of Groesbeck, Richard Wurtz and wife Shelly of Glendora, CA, Debra Brewer and husband Timothy of Groesbeck, Donald Garvey, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Groesbeck, Jennifer Scurto of Hesperia, CA, Blane Morton and wife, Levi Morton and wife, Brandy Cowan and husband of other states; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Blanche Gardner of Rockland, Maine, and many nieces and nephews. At the request of Glenys, her ashes will be spread on the ocean. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Groesbeck LTC for the care given Mrs. Hamalainen the past six years.
