Margie Merlene Baker of Groesbeck, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Windsor Healthcare Residence, at age 86. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 7, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Forest Glade Cemetery, with Bro. Randy Ayres of the Word of Life Church officiating. Vocalists will be Ms. Stacy Duffield and Mr. Michael Schatz. Serving as pallbearers will be John Paul Wisdom, Mark Wisdom, Chris Lynd, Ryan Fewell, Chase Gerdes, and Warren Anglin. Margie (Merlene) was born February 4, 1926 to John Oscar Montgomery and Nettie Bradshaw Montgomery in Mexia. She was raised in the Baptist Church. She attended school at Honest Ridge. On August 5, 1945, at age nineteen, she was united in marriage with John Z. “Buddy” Baker in Mexia. They made their home in Forest Glade, with six girls born in Mexia, and later the family lived at Springfield where the girls grew up. After her husband passed away in 1982, she moved to Groesbeck. She had been a resident at Windsor the last six years. Margie devoted her life to raising her girls and especially loved taking care of her grandchildren. The happiest days of her life were when a new baby was born into her family. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buddy Baker on July 5, 1982; brothers, Weldon Montgomery and Pete Montgomery; sister, Jonita Nevill; and son-in-law, J. R. (Butch) Chenault. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Jean and Raymond Thomas of Carthage, Glenda Chenault of LaVernia, Donna and John Wisdom of Ennis, Sue and Mike Lynd of Groesbeck, Betty Baker of Groesbeck, and Johnnie Gayle and Jimmy Fewell of Groesbeck. Also, she leaves behind her eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
