John Henry Grube was born on February 7, 1930 to William and Louise (Schroeder) Grube in McLennan County, Texas. He grew up in the Marlin/Riesel area. John attended elementary school at St. Paul School at Perry, Texas; he later graduated Riesel High School. After high school, John joined the army and served in the army reserves. He was employed by General Tire and retired after 31 years of service. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen Marie Wetzel on June 3, 1950. They lived in Waco but later made their home outside of Groesbeck at Horn Hill. John continued to work at General Tire but also raised cattle and farmed. He and Helen loved to dance and never missed a chance to show their skills at the polka. At the time of her death in 1987, they had been married for 36 years. John met and married Mondelle (Little) Watson on February 6, 1988. They lived in Groesbeck and were married for 23 years. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and in later life especially enjoyed hog hunting with his buddies and riding his 4-wheeler. He also loved the domino game of 42 and thoroughly enjoyed his partners at the Senior Citizens Center. John was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Helen Wetzel Grube; son John H. Grube Jr; brothers Wilburn Grube and William Grube; and sister Lucile Grube Itson. He is survived by his wife Mondelle Grube of Groesbeck; daughter Paula Grube of Groesbeck; daughter Glenda Stone and husband Bubba Stone of Kosse; step daughter Lewdelle Pekar and husband Kenneth Pekar of Houston; step son Lewis Richard Watson II and wife Lynn Watson of Katy; brother and sister-in-law Wesley Grube and Ruth Grube of Waco; sister-in-law Shirley Grube of Waco; and seven grandchildren: Roger Grube of Dawson; Dan Grube and wife Heather of Coolidge; Jarrod Stone of Douglas, Wyoming; Sarah Stone of Kosse; Calli Pekar and Colton Pekar of Houston; Lewis Richard Watson III; and Chance Watson of Katy. He was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 with Rev. Steve Nance of the First United Methodist Church officiating. A musical tribute was given by Phil Koester. Pallbearers were Roger Grube, Dan Grube, Jarrod Stone, Colton Pekar, Trey Watson and Chance Watson. Honorary pallbearers were Cleve Ferguson, George Massey, Clayton Skinner, Kevin Dowdle, Jim Cook, and Paul Fitte. Burial was held in the Riesel Cemetery.
