Aubrey LeRoy “A.L.” Sutton, of Groesbeck, passed away at his home, surrounded by loving family, on Friday, January 18, 2013. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 20, 2013, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Joey Magouirk officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Parker Memorial Park, with full military honors. Aubrey was born October 12, 1928 to Louis Benjamin and Lilly Pearl (Hudson) Sutton in Guion, Texas. Growing up, he worked on a dairy farm and in the cotton fields. He was living in Groesbeck when he met the love of his life, (Jessie) Marie Webster, and they were married on December 5, 1949 at the Prairie Point Baptist Church. At age 17, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served from 1946 through 1949 in the German occupation following World War II. He was stationed in Germany two years, and later made two more trips there. He was in Korea three times. After his discharge, and a nine year period when he worked in the oil fields, he re-enlisted and served seventeen more years. He retired in 1975, as Sergeant First Class, after his twenty year career, and he said he felt fortunate to have never fired a shot in anger and was never fired at. He learned electronics in the military, and was an instructor in the electronics school of the Army. He went to work after his retirement for the City of Alvin and was the shop superintendent for fourteen years, retiring in 1990. Aubrey and Marie had been coming to Groesbeck, where they had purchased the Hendricks place, since 1979, and moved full time to their home on Highway 164 in 1990. God blessed Aubrey and Marie with fifty plus years and two daughters, as well as four of their grandchildren and a great grandchild whom they adopted and raised. Marie passed away in 2000 and he was also preceded in death by his parents;three brothers, George Allen Sutton, Hubert Earl Sutton, and Melvin Louis Sutton; granddaughter, Mary Candace Worthey; and a great granddaughter, Rebel Marie Sutton. He is survived by four daughters: Julia Ann York and husband Allan Lloyd York of Waco, Tena Lynne Sutton of Waco, Jo Ann Phelps and husband Chester Lee Phelps of Waco, and Jonee Annette Mejorado and husband Alfred Xavier Mejorado of Laredo; three sons: James Allen Sutton and wife Kelly Brianne of Round Rock, Jason Allan Sutton and wife Carmen Ree of Round Rock, and Cody Wayne Sutton of Groesbeck; seven grandchildren, in addition to the four oldest they had adopted: Michael Lee Worthey, Rachel Anne Worthey, Jeremy David Worthey, Jesse Fay Worthey-Kurh, James William Worthey and wife Violet, Benjamin Kalab Worthey, and Warren Adam Worthey. Also survived by fourteen great grandchildren, (in addition to Cody who was adopted by Aubrey and Marie): William Robert Rivers, Alisha Ann Phelps-Simpson, Bobby Wayne Rivers, Jr., Angel Lyn Lape and husband Bennie Lee Lape, Heather Michelle Sutton, Ivy Leigh Dunlap and husband Dallas Clinton Dunlap, Ashley Rochelle Sutton, Tianna Nicole Majorado, Pricillia Dominique Majorado, Makayla Michelle Sutton, Geren Kane Sutton, Myra Leanna Sutton, Rowen Aleax Sutton, and Nicolas James Kurh. Further, there are eleven great-great grandchildren: William Harold Leroy Sutton-Wedgman, Hunter Ray Wedgman, Devlin Lee Wedgman, Christian Emilio Sutton, Dallas Leroy Dunlap, Ayden Jackson Dunlap, Zane Clinton Dunlap, Kaitlyn Savannah Leger, Collin Lee Lape, Amanda LeAnn Simpson, and Alexander Eugene McClure. Two brothers and sisters-in-law are: Harold Ralph Sutton and wife Kathleen of Alvin, and Billy Newton Sutton and wife Jean of Rosharon; five sisters-in-law, Doris Webster of Thornton, Ola Mae Webster of Groesbeck, Barbara Webster of Mexia, and Shirley Ann Nowaski and husband Daniel of Riesel; Edwina Webster of Houston; and many nieces and nephews; and his dogs.
