They lived in many towns while she was growing up including Franklin, Old Union, Houston, and New Waverly. She graduated from New Waverly High School as the salutatorian of her class, and using her talents for writing, she wrote their school song. Lois worked at the Huntsville Women’s Prison Unit and also worked for Sears while she was single. She fell in love with the young man who gave her rides from her parents home in Old Union to Huntsville, and was united in marriage with Donald M. “Don” Henderson on October 12, 1962 in Groesbeck. They had been married forty-nine years when he passed away on October 21, 2011. Don and Lois moved to the area that became part of Lake Limestone to have a cattle operation. When the lake acquired their land, he set up a campground and convenience store, “Woodland Shores,” and Lois helped him with this operation. She was a “feisty go-getter” in her work and life until a stroke slowed her down eighteen years ago. She continued to look forward to monthly trips with Don to Shreveport and loved to play video poker, and was a “scary-movie” buff. As her health continued to decline, Don was an excellent caregiver until his death, and her daughter and son-in-law moved in to provide around-the-clock care She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed picking on her family as her way of showing her love for them. Lois especially adored her two grandsons. Lois was a member of the Baptist Church Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Flossie Cox and Cecil Buchanan; two brothers, Goober Crabb and “Little Boy” who died in infancy; and her husband, Donald Henderson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, LaDonna “Muffin” and Chris Nowak, and grandsons Chase Nowak and Logan Nowak, all of Lake Limestone.
