Jerry Don Perry

Jerry Don Perry, of Austin, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013, at age 76. Visitation will be Monday, February 18, 2013, from 10:00 through Noon at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Faulkenberry Cemetery. Jerry Don was born October 11, 1936 to William Tilton Perry and Loretta Marie (Reynolds) Perry at Groesbeck. During his high school years of 1950 through 1954, he was a starter on the basketball team. He graduated from Groesbeck High School, and while still in high school began working in the newspaper printing business in Groesbeck, Teague and Fairfield. He attended Sam Houston for two years, while waiting on his future wife to graduate from high school. Jerry Don was united in marriage with Roma Dolores Henderson on June 8, 1956 at the Groesbeck Church of Christ. They made their home in Georgetown, where he was employed as a printer in the book composition industry. They moved to Austin in 1965 and he worked the last fifteen years of his career for G & S Typesetter in Austin, retiring on July 31, 2002. Jerry Don served as a volunteer fireman while living in Georgetown, was a youth sports coach, a member of Woodmen of the World, and the North Austin Optimist Club. He was a Baptist. Mr. Perry was preceded in death by his parents, and his two brothers, Carl Joe Perry and Billy T. Perry. He is survived by his wife, Roma Dolores (Henderson) Perry; a son, James Donovan “Jimmy Don” Perry of Austin; daughter and son-in-law, DeAnne and Lt. Col. Derek Avance of Woodbridge, VA; and son and daughter-in-law, Lane and Amy Perry of Austin; and four grandchildren: Denise McDonald and husband Brian McDonald of Dallas, Debbie Fahey and husband Lt. Steve Fahey of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Justin Perry of Austin, and Ryan Perry of Austin.
