Clelia S. Burch, a longtime Waco resident, and formerly from Groesbeck, passed away on February 15, 2013 in Houston, at age 99. The viewing will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 10 am to 12 pm. and her funeral will be at 1 pm. Both will be at Groesbeck Funeral Home, followed by burial in the Hogan Cemetery. Clelia was born September 22, 1913 in Groesbeck, Texas to Frank and Roxie Mae (Wilson) Slaughter. Clelia graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1929. She married Richard Jennings (Dick) Burch and had one son, Richard Jerome (Jerry) Burch while they were living in San Antonio, Texas. She and Dick later settled in Austin, Texas and were still living there when Dick passed away in 1966. Clelia worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 30 years. After her retirement from the government, she subsequently moved to Waco, Texas and lived there until October of 2008, when she moved to Houston to be with her family. Clelia was a longtime member of Eastern Star, Travis Chapter No. 472 and McLennan Chapter No. 639, and had served as Worthy-Matron. Clelia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son Jerry who passed away in 2006. She is survived by her daughter-in law Sara Jane Burch; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Jesi Burch; one grandson, Richard Jennings (Rex) Burch and wife Karen; and one great grandson Richard James Burch. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or the charity of your choice.
