Billy "Bill" Ray Massey

Bill Massey of Groesbeck passed away February 22, 2013 at Groesbeck LTC at the age of 84. Funeral services will be held at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 10 AM, with his grandson, Lee Wright of Ward St. Church of Christ in Marlin officiating. Burial will be at Old Union Cemetery. There will be open visitation Monday-Wednesday 8-5. There will not be a graveside service following. Bill was a long time resident of the Old Union and Box Church area. Bill grew up in Mart, Texas, then eventually settled in Old Union after marrying Ruth Massey, where they spent 63 years of their lives together. Bill retired from Brown and Root Construction in the early 1980’s. During his retired life, he was an avid vegetable and watermelon farmer, as well as a chicken farmer. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Louise Massey; daughters, Virginia “Ginger” Hartline and Billie “Denise” Massey; four sisters, Emma Lee Curlee, Minnie Lou Willis, Geraldine “Jerri” Collier and Christine Shaffer; three brothers, John Massey, R.S. “Jiggs” Massey and Jim Massey; parents, Steven Cade Massey and Lilly Mae Massey. Bill is survived by his daughter, Janice Moon; grandchildren, Christopher Hartline, Meredith Mathis, Kathy Shaw, Diana Matous, Valerie Stambaugh, Lee Wright, Heather Flippin and Amanda Matous; and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends that will greatly miss him. The family wishes to express their love for their granddaddy, and will always be thankful for all the great memories they have had with him.
