Guadalupe Salas, of Groesbeck, passed away at Windsor Healthcare Residence on Monday, June 3, 2013, at age 80. Visitation will be held at the Monte Carmelo Church on Thursday, from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M., and a Memorial service will begin at 7:00 P.M., with the sermon delivered by Rev. Pedro Aguirre, Jr. Visitation will continue after the service through 9:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Monte Carmelo Church, with Rev. Hilario Villarreal, of Elim Church of Fort Worth preaching. Final rites will be conducted by Rev. Pedro Aguirre, Jr. at Cobb Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ralph Salas, Jr., Eliseo Turrubiarte, Adam Turrubiarte, Danny Salas, Greg Reyes, and Edward Lozano. Guadalupe was born on April 19, 1933 to Sesario Cansino and Jesusa (Garza) Cansino at Edcouch, TX. After her family had moved to Cego (near Chilton,) she met Ralph Salas, and they were united in marriage on April 19, 1952 in Waco. They lived in Chilton a couple of years before moving to Dallas. In 1965, Ralph entered the ministry through the Latin American Council of Christian Churches, and he and Guadalupe began their lifetime together of travels to the churches he pastored in Fort Worth and Dallas; then lived the next fifteen years in Gilroy and Fresno, California, eleven years in Pueblo, Colorado, back to Texas with four years in San Antonio, fourteen years in Mathis, and then moved to Groesbeck in 2010. Guadalupe was a member of the Monte Carmelo Church in Groesbeck. Throughout her life, Guadalupe was a housewife, mother, and minister’s wife, supporting her husband in all the activities of the churches where he was the minister. She was known for her baking of cakes and pies, especially her lemon and banana cream pies. She also used her free time to crochet items which she sold to donate the proceeds to the church. She was lovingly called “Mother Goose” by her daughter Rachel, and Grandma or Buelita by the grandchildren, and she will be missed by all her family. Mrs. Salas was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Fernando Cansino and Joe Cansino. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Salas of Groesbeck; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Eliseo Turrubiarte of Groesbeck; daughter, Mary Rachel Salas and son, Ralph Salas, Jr. both of Fresno, CA; six grandchildren: Sonia Lisa Turrubiarte of Houston, Adam Turrubiarte and wife Brooke of Groesbeck, Michael Anthony Salas, Elissa Sarai Salas, Brianna Marie Salas, and a great grandson, Garrett Ryan Salas, all of Fresno, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Dora Lozano and Guadalupe of Houston; brother and sister-in-law, Sesario and Cecilia Cansino, Jr. of Roswell, New Mexico; sisters-in-law, Sara Cansino of Houston and Lilly Vasquez of Euless; brother-in-law, Tony Salas of Lawton, OK; and several nieces and nephews.
