David John Wurtz, II, of Groesbeck, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 24, 2013, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tracy Sims of the Central Baptist Church of Thornton will conduct the service, assisted by Dr. Tod Tanner of the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck. David was born September 30, 1955 at Pomona, California to David John Wurtz, Sr. and Donna Louise (Morton) Bensen. He grew up and attended school in Southern California. He worked there during his adult life as a journeyman block mason in commercial building construction. David met Darla Wages in 1985 and they were married in April 1987. He began a relationship with Christ in 1992 while still living in California. In 1992, David and his wife Darla and their family moved from Montclair, CA. to her grandfather’s ranch at Oletha, Texas. They loved living in Texas and several of the family who visited them also liked it so much, they moved to Texas. David was employed as a machinist at S&S Machining in Groesbeck. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck. He loved children and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching football on TV (especially the Dallas Cowboys.) David was preceded in death by his father, David Wurtz, Sr. and his mother-in-law, Sarah Buchanan. He is survived by his wife, Darla Wurtz of Groesbeck; son, David Wurtz III of Richardson; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tami Wurtz of San Antonio; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and L.J. Ybarra of Richardson; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Dillon McLean of Groesbeck; daughter, Deana Greer of San Dimas, CA; grandson, Caleb Wurtz; granddaughters, Maggie Wurtz and Riley McLean; mother and step-father, Donna and Larry Bensen of Groesbeck; brother, Richard Wurtz and wife Shelly of San Dimas, CA; sister, Debbie Brewer and husband Tim of Groesbeck; sister, Jaylynn Kruse of CA; sister-in-law, Shana Wages of Pleasant Hil, MS; brother-in-law, Randy Wages and wife Michelle of Rancho Mirage, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
