Mildred Christine McGilvray of Groesbeck passed away Friday, November 8, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Medina at age 88. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 9 at Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 10 at 2:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mexia. Father Benjie Magnaye will conduct the services with Jo Speights as pianist. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Richard King, Matt McGilvray, Mark McGilvray, Scott Faglie, Cole McLean, and Shawn Faglie. Mildred was born June 18, 1925 to Joseph and Katherine Steubenrauch of Mexia. She was married to James Benton McGilvray on February 15, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mexia. As an adult Mildred worked as an LVN at Cox Hospital in Groesbeck and various area nursing homes. After retiring, Mildred volunteered at the Groesbeck hospital and Windsor Nursing Home. She was an active member and officer of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her favorite activities were going to Waco with friends and going to any garage sale or Walmart, collecting as she went. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and husband, J.B. in 1990. She is survived by her children: Catherine Ann King of Groesbeck, Joe Marvin McGilvray of Groesbeck, Jimmy McGilvray of Mexia, Bernard McGilvray of Groesbeck, Tony McGilvray of Robinson, Carrie Faglie of Medina, Janie Gibson of Groesbeck, Carol McLean of Groesbeck, Gery McGilvray of Plano, Melissa Monk of Weatherford. Other survivors are her brother-in-law and wife, Charles and Olga McGilvray of Wichita Falls, and a sister-in-law, Jean Cummings. Mildred is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Memorials can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mexia.
