Edie Mazelle Garrett, of Groesbeck, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Groesbeck LTC Care Facility, at age 96. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 19, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Steve Nance of the First United Methodist Church of Groesbeck officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin. Pallbearers will be Herbert Gene Wilson, Jimmy Copeland, Michael McGilvray, Don Davis, Jerry Pelton, and Leo McGilvray. Mazelle was born August 24, 1917 at Big Hill, to James (Jim) Hudson and Bertha (Dickey) Hudson. She grew up going to school at Big Hill and finished school in Thornton. Mazelle was united in marriage with Jack Robert Garrett on December 16, 1939. They lived in various communities in rural Limestone County while farming and raising their family. During that time, she worked as a seamstress at the sewing factories in Groesbeck and Mexia. She and her sister Betty also had a craft industry specializing in fabric dolls, which included making the dolls, faces, hair and clothing, and then selling at craft shows all over Texas. Mazelle lived the past twenty-five years in Groesbeck. When not sewing, Mazelle enjoyed working in her yard and growing flowers, as long as her health permitted. She enjoyed being a grandmother, taking care of the grandchildren at times and attending their school activities. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Groesbeck. Mrs. Garrett was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Jack who passed away in 1970. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Ray Hudson, James Hudson, Jr., and Jerry Hudson, as well as a brother who died in infancy, and a sister, Frances Wilson. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Kelley of Waco; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Shelia Garrett of Groesbeck; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Chad Hall of New Braunfels; and eight grandchildren and their spouses: Cindy and Charles Tarrance, Terry and Krista Kelley, Jennifer and Trey Brooks, Robbie and Robin Garrett, Julie Garrett, Brian and Wendy Yarbrough, Sonya and Jeff Wolda, and Meghan Hall. She also leaves behind fourteen great grandchildren: Morgan Tarrance, Jayden Tarrance, Holden Garrett, Haley Brooks, Garrett Yarbrough, Wyatt Yarbrough, Lily Yarbrough, Coral Loftin Wolda, Austin Wolda, Justin Moore and wife Whitney, Jason Moore, Cole Kelley, Kate Kelley, and Klaire Kelley; and two sisters, Janie Odom of Mesquite and Betty Brown of Sulpher Springs.
