Peggy Kathleen (“Kathy” or “Kat”) Morrison, of Groesbeck, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Baylor Hospital’s T. Boone Pickens Cancer Center in Dallas, following her ten-year battle with health problems. She was 52. Visitation will be Friday, January 24, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Groesbeck, with Thomas Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Faulkenberry Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve McGowen, Mike McGowen, Wade Harrison, Rick Wyatt, David Bell, and John Ranochak. Kathy was born October 27, 1961 at Nacogdoches. She grew up with her mom, Betty (Sigler) Rife and stepfather, Harvey Rife in Mexia, graduating from Mexia High School. She had married at age 16, and after graduating, worked briefly at a local flower shop and then for the next fifteen years at the Mexia State School. While working at Mexia State School, she met Dennis Morrison, and they were married on September 25, 1996. Their daughter Rusti was born while they lived in Mexia, joining an older sister, Kellie. The family moved in 2000 to their present home near Lake Limestone. While Kathy was caring for her husband and her eighteen year old daughter, and with her two year old in her lap, she studied and received her LVN license in 2001 from Navarro College. She worked at the hospital in Mexia and then at the hospital in Groesbeck. Kathy was a very intelligent lady, who received her RN license in 2009, and was the keynote speaker at her graduation ceremony. She had worked in the ER at Limestone Medical Center since becoming an RN. Kat was an outdoors person, and she and Dennis enjoyed motorcycles, and their motorcycle club, the Lonestar Krusers MC. She rode her own Honda, both on trips with Dennis, and to work. When she began having health problems ten years ago, she never slowed down, in work, or family time, or bike riding. Her doctor gave her his approval in “living life to the fullest” as long as she could. Her final battle with her health began in November 2013 with a bone marrow transplant and complications that kept her in Dallas for medical treatment until her final breath. Her loving husband Dennis was her backbone, and with her every step of the way. Kat was devoted to her family, to Dennis, to her children and grandchildren; she was also a dear and loving friend, and furthermore, would help anybody anyway she could. She was a devoted nurse, and touched the hearts of every person she met. Kathy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Claud F. and Bea Sigler and her father, Harvey Rife. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Morrison of Groesbeck; daughter, Kellie Crawley of Waco; daughter, Rusti Morrison of Groesbeck; granddaughter, Valezka Crawley and grandson, Ziyun Wright of Waco; her mother, Betty Rife of Nacogdoches; sisters, Christine Sloop of Hixson, TN, Mary Carden of Mexia and Martha Bowers of Tehuacana; and brother, Stan Rife of Hewitt.
