Dorothy Mae Patterson Hughes passed away in Fort Worth on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. There will be a viewing on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon at Groesbeck Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at Old Armour Cemetery in Coolidge at 2:30 P.M. on Friday. Officiating at the service will be her grandson, Jacob Rogers and Tracy Sims, Pastor of the Central Baptist Church of Thornton. Dorothy was born January 5, 1927 in Wortham to Alfred Archie Patterson and Della Lou Bunch. She had three brothers, Roy Lee Patterson of Bridge City, Alvin Patterson, deceased, and James Edward Patterson of Houston. Dorothy married John Ed Hughes in Waco on July 18, 1947, and they had two children. Dorothy worked various jobs before retiring from General Electric in Waco. By then, John bought Barney Morton Hardware in Groesbeck in 1973, changing the name to Hughes Hardware. They remained in business, selling hardware to Groesbeck and the surrounding area, until John’s death in August 1991. Dorothy kept the store running for the next year, until finally selling it in 1992. Dorothy loved to travel with all her friends and go to Casinos, taking in life to the fullest. She loved her family and friends and would help anyone if needed. She is survived by her son, John Michael Hughes and wife Billie of Arlington, and daughter, Karen Hughes Craig and husband Lance of Livingston. She has five grandchildren: Jeff Dyer and wife Nicole, Sarah Hughes Thornhill and husband Brad, Christopher Hughes, Jacob Rogers and wife Jenifer, and Hayley Rogers. She also had seven great grandchildren: Brennan, LaLania, Danielle, Jackson, Chris, Hunter, and Lindsey, as well as three nieces and one nephew: Sharon Gilliam, Nancy Neel, Joy Mock and Matt Patterson.
