Jerry Coleman

Jerry Coleman, formerly of Groesbeck, and resident of Belton since 1998, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014, at Indian Oaks Living Center in Harker Heights, at age 73, after health complications the past three years. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 4, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Belton (506 N. Main St.- www.fbcbelton.org)There will also be a "Rememberance Memorial" for local family and friends to be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. ("come and go") at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Groesbeck (203 W. State St.).  Jerry was born July 20, 1940 in Groesbeck to Alfred Jeremiah Coleman and Jessie Pearl Herring Coleman.   He graduated from Groesbeck High, Class of 1958, and being the son of a band director, he played the saxophone in the Groesbeck High School band. He grew up always loving cars, working on them and racing hot rods. His grandfather gave him his first car, a 1949 Ford (in 1959.) He went on from there to build his first race car by himself, a 1935 Chevy Coupe, and from there, he built many other cars, ending with a 1941 Packard in 2010. As a young man he went into sales, selling furniture at several prominent furniture stores in Waco, and then to Fort Worth as a car salesman. The family moved back to Groesbeck in the late seventies, where he opened a Ford Dealership and was in business until 1998, and was involved in civic activities in Groesbeck. In 1998, Jerry married Rhonda Alford and moved to Belton.   Jerry was still involved in cars the rest of his life, buying, restoring, and selling street rods. They were a member of the Corridor Cruisers Car Club, and he entered many shows, and won trophies. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Mary Coleman. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Coleman of Belton; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Joel Hall of Groesbeck; daughter, Lea Farmer of Teague; and son, Eric Coleman of McGregor; nine grandchildren: Micah Hall, Caleb Hall and wife Destiny, Nathan Hall, Isaac Hall, Hannah Hall, Sarah Hall, Dusty Newsom, Jessica Hall, and Haley Newsom; and nine great grandchildren: Ethan, Ty, Brayden, Bubba, Gage, Eli, Mahala, Si, and Madison.
