Sherry Lynn (Grimes) Hunt

July 10, 1957 — April 12, 2014

Sherry Lynn (Grimes) Hunt, of Groesbeck, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 12, 2014, with her family at her side, bringing an end to her battle with cancer, at age 56. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Sherry Lynn was born July 10, 1957 to Joe Arlie Grimes and Josephine (James) Grimes in Fort Worth, and grew up in Groesbeck. Sherry Lynn was united in marriage with Steven Flint Hunt on March 16, 1991 and they lived in Limestone County the rest of their lives, and in the Red Hill community since 1995. In 1995, at the age of 38, Sherry fulfilled a promise to her mother, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Arts and Sciences from the University of Texas at Tyler.     She did her college work while working at the Mexia State School as an assistant social worker, and while raising her children.   She also worked a few years at the First National Bank in Groesbeck.   Family was very important to Sherry; her grandchildren were her life.   She was an awesome cook, and loved gardening and yard work, and hummingbirds.   She loved to fish, whether in the tank at home or the Navasota River or the beach.   She loved the annual family vacations at Port Aransas. Sherry was a member of the Word of Life Church and a devout Christian who prayed with and for her family daily.   She was a daily follower of TV Christian ministers, and filled notebooks with inspiring thoughts to share with her family.   She will be missed dearly. Sherry Lynn was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joe Arlie and Josephine Grimes; her grandmother, Eugie Burleson; her brother, Johnny Alvin Grimes; and an uncle, Bob Grimes. She is survived by her husband, Steven Hunt of Groesbeck; daughter and son-in-law, Sara Elizabeth and James Cameron Ward of Mexia; son, John Joseph (J.J.) Thomas of Marquez; son and daughter-in-law, Steven Kyle and Angelia Hunt of Waxahachie; son and daughter-in-law, Sean Lee and Joline Hunt of Emhouse.   She also leaves behind her ten dear grandchildren, Dalton, Cameryn, Kaede, Tatumn, Austin, River, Paizlee, Haley, Charlie, and Emily; mother-in-law, Jettie Hunt of Blooming Grove; brothers-in-law, Archie Hunt and wife Julie and Alec Hunt; cousin, Randy Grimes and wife Christina of San Antonio; nephew, Justin Grimes and wife Dixie of Teague; and other extended family.
