Susan Gail Doughtie, of Humble, passed away May 13, 2014, following illness which kept her hospitalized since February. She was 59. Visitation will be Friday, May 16, 2014, from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tracy Sims of the Central Baptist Church of Thornton officiating. Burial will follow in Thornton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin Doughtie, David Ponder, Danny Saling, Lane Doughtie, Will Planter, and Darryl Doughtie. Susan was born December 7, 1954 in Tomawanda, New York to William Edward and Gladys Carol Planter. The family moved to Texas when she was young. Susan was united in marriage with Michael Delaney Doughtie in Houston on December 29, 2003. She had worked the past sixteen years as an accountant in the Houston office of JMG Realty, until her health problems in February 2014. Susan was a very talented and creative lady, who had enjoyed working on a variety of crafts in her free time. She learned Swedish weaving from her mother-in-law and made many afghans. For the last few years, she was involved in scrapbooking and “stamping-up”. She was a distributor and taught classes demonstrating many new and creative ideas for making specialized cards and other projects. Susan was preceded in death by her parents; a son, H. T. Stone; and a sister, Gladys Rose Garnier. She is survived by her husband, Michael Doughtie of Humble; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Kay and Jason Rosenbaum of Fairborn, Ohio; step daughters, Jessica Ponder and her husband David of Lufkin, Jennifer Lunsford of Lufkin; step son, Justin Doughtie of Huntsville; step daughter, JoAnn Dyress of Huffman; seven grandchildren; mother-in-law, Betty Brown of Sulpher Springs; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Ruth and Robert Barrow of Houston; and brother and sister-in-law, William Edward and Kathy Planter, Jr. of Huffman, TX. She will also be mourned by Bailey, her beautiful Labradoodle dog and other extended family and friends. Anyone wishing to make donations may send memorials in her honor to the American Cancer Society or Heart Association funds.
