Alana Kay Duke Erskine, of Groesbeck, passed away at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco on Monday, June 9, 2014, at age 48. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 11, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 12, 2014, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Randy Ayres of the Word of Life Church officiating. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charlie Day, Preston Day, Jerry Duke, Jesse Duke, Jake Nichols, and Eddie Duke. Austin Nichols will be an honorary pallbearer. Alana Kay was born on April 24, 1966 to James Larry Duke, Sr. and Linda Varner Duke in Groesbeck. She lived most of her young school years in Jewett. She married and began her family in Jewett, and then moved to Teague. Alana attended beauty college in Palestine,and then operated her own beauty shop in Teague, where she enjoyed the customers as well as working on her three daughters’ hair. Alana lived in Groesbeck the last ten years and was married to David Wayne Erskine. They loved dancing. She was always listening to country music when at home, and dancing in the kitchen with Dave. She enjoyed having all the family come to see her and expected them “everyday.” In addition to loving the grandchildren, she had her 2 special babies (pets Baby and Sassy.) She is survived by her husband, David Erskine of Groesbeck; her parents, Linda and Larry Duke of Groesbeck; five daughters: Nikki Herren and her friend, Jennifer Halford of Groesbeck; Brittany Herren and friend Kyle Henderson of Mexia; Stormy Herren and friend Bubba Baker of Buffalo; Mackenzie Erskine of Groesbeck; and Morgan Erskine of Groesbeck; three grandchildren: Jaycee Goddard of Groesbeck, Adryen Ramirez of Mexia and Khylie Henderson of Mexia, (and another grandchild expected soon); sister, Sharla Day of Groesbeck; brother, James Duke and wife Rose Beddingfield of Jewett; nieces and nephews, Preston Day and Shelby Day of Mexia, Khyndle Carey of Groesbeck, and Jamie Duke and Kaden Duke of Jewett.
