Lynn J Dempsey, of Kosse, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at age 70. Visitation will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Friday, July 4, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Seale-Round Prairie Cemetery, with Reverend Tracy Sims officiating. Lynn J was born March 29, 1944 in Groesbeck to Bill Dempsey and Jeraldine (Clay) Dempsey. He grew up and attended school in West Columbia and Angleton and graduated from Angleton High School in the class of 1962. He also attended San Jacinto Jr. College for awhile and then went to work for Continental Can Co. in Houston. In 1965, he began his career as a member of Boilermakers 74 and Ironworkers 84 Unions out of Houston. He worked on jobs all over the United States and some islands for forty years until retiring in 2005. While still traveling and working, he had made his home in Kosse for the past twenty years and lived there full time after retiring. Lynn J enjoyed raising a garden, both food and flowers and plants. He was a deer hunter, making trips to West Texas and annually to Michigan to hunt, and had many of the deer heads and antelope mounted and displayed on his wall. Lynn J also liked buying and restoring antiques and selling in antique malls, and he and his sister Loretta enjoyed many trips antiquing and visiting wineries. Lynn J was preceded in death by his parents and his nephews, Roger West and Dusty Vasut. He is survived by sister and brother-in-law Loretta and Mark Barker of Kosse; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Raymond Smith of Montgomery; sister, Helen Dempsey of Kosse; five nieces and nephew: Greg Vasut, Aaron Kuck, Greg Hernandez, Sondra Burroughs, and Rachel Smith; and also great nieces and nephews.
