Steve Allen Hicks, Sr. of Mexia, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Manor Healthcare Residence in Mexia. He was 71. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Lost Prairie Cemetery. Sons and grandsons will be pallbearers: Steve Hicks, III, Steve Hicks, Jr., Ski Hicks, William Hicks, William Hicks, Jr., and Jason Hicks. Stanley Hicks will be an honorary pallbearer. Steve was born on December 14, 1942 in Waco to Marvin Hicks and Inez Smith Hicks. Steve served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967 through 1969, and was awarded a bronze star for bravery. Steve was united in marriage with Judy Kay Killingsworth in 1967, and they made their home in Wortham at one time and later in Mexia. She passed away in 2003. Steve was employed by Mexia Independent School District in the maintenance department until his health problems resulted in retirement. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Judy; and all his 4 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by his children: Steve A. Hicks, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Groesbeck; Ski A. Hicks and wife Annette of Corsicana; Stanley A. Hicks of Henderson; William A. Hicks and wife Mary of Bardwell; and Jason L. Hicks of Teague; and 6 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 2 great grandsons, and 7 great granddaughters.
