Tommy Parker

Tommy Parker, of Groesbeck, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the Veterans Hospital in Temple, at age 70. Tommy was born December 20, 1943 to J. R. Parker, Sr. and Rachel Brown Parker in Bowling Green, Florida. He lived in Florida until moving to Texas when he was thirty. Tommy served in the U. S. Army from 1963 through 1966. He trained in parachute jumping and worked as an order supply specialist. Tommy was a truck driver all his life. He lived in the Thornton and Groesbeck area for more than thirty-five years and drove cattle trucks for various companies, including Erskine Brothers Trucking, Clifton Cattle Company, and James Hall trucking. Tommy loved going home to visit his family in Florida as often as he could. He would take his daughter to visit for a month in the summers. He enjoyed the time at home in Groesbeck spent with his daughter and grandchildren. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Grace P. Davis and brother-in-law, Robert C. Davis; and sister-in-law, Shirley Jean Parker. He is survived by his daughter, Connie Rachelle Smith of Groesbeck; granddaughter, Rachel Smith and grandson, Jared Smith of Groesbeck; brother, Leaston L. Parker of Old Town, Florida; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert M. “Bobby” and Shirley Parker of Lee, Florida. No memorial service is planned locally; after cremation, Tommy will be with his family in Methodist Cemetery in Fort Green, Florida.
