Weldon Ray Page

Weldon Ray Page, of Groesbeck, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at home with his family, following a short illness. Graveside services at Old Union Cemetery will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 10, 2014. Reverend Bill Sutton of the Oletha Baptist Church and David Fenn, a long-time friend of the family, will conduct the service. David will also sing “Silver Wings”, which was Weldon’s favorite song. Weldon was born April 6, 1940 in the Munger area near Coolidge, to William (Willie) E. and Mary Pearlena (Lena) (Shinault) Page. Weldon worked for Randall Rand at the Phillips 66 station in Mexia and in Groesbeck from 1963 until 1973. He moved to Kennedale, TX. in 1973 and worked for TransCold Express from 1973 until 1980. He then worked for Eagle Pipeline Construction Co. from 1980 through 2007 under Wendell Smith, as a truck driver. He retired in December 2007 and moved back to Groesbeck. Weldon married Yvonne Sanders on August 24, 1965 in Fairfield. Yvonne is the daughter of the late Calvin and Francine Sanders of Groesbeck. They were married for 49 years and were looking forward to their fiftieth anniversary. He loved to fish; his fishing buddies were Bruce Vest and Monroe Bass. You would see them fishing together every chance they were able to get together with each other. It wasn’t anything for the bathtub to be full of fish after their fishing trip together. He also loved to take the family boat riding at the lake, which was so enjoyed by everyone. For a hobby, he built birdhouses and planters in his workshop in the backyard. He really enjoyed making things. And he enjoyed growing his fresh tomatoes each year, which kept him busy. It was not unusual to see him mowing the yard with his pet dog riding with him; he really enjoyed her companionship and help in “steering” the mower with him. He found special joy in the cook-outs with family and friends. He loved the time shared with each of them and the grandchildren were the greatest joy of his life. Weldon was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Stevie Ray Page and Kenneth Page; and a grandson, Robert Wilder. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Sanders Page of Groesbeck; 3 sons: Calvin Ray Page of Groesbeck, Rodney Page of Mexia, and Gary Page of Mexia; 4 daughters: Nancy Page Thompson of Groesbeck, Pam Page Guest of Mexia, Lisa Page Smith of Mexia, and Ann Page of Houston; and seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Billy Page of Fort Worth; two sisters: Betty Page Putz and husband Jack of Granberry, and Ruby Page Garner of Borger; brother-in-law, Jerry Don Sanders of Athens; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, and many friends, as well as his beloved “fur buddies.” The family wishes to thank Providence Hospice for everything they helped with. The sweet nurses, Meagan and Karen and the “Bath Lady”, Carolyn are appreciated greatly for all they did for Weldon and Yvonne; they really were a God-send to the family. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made for Alzheimer’s research.
