Kathleen (Wimberly) Cockroft, of Mart, passed away Monday, November 10, 2008 at her home in Mart, at age 72. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain T. Brian Pendleton officiating. Burial will follow at Big Hill Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jett Gregg Cockroft, Bodie Wayne Ostrander, Jay Lynn Cockroft, Euleon Jock Cockroft, Chuck Higgins, and Eric Jeanson. Kathleen “Kat” was born April 13, 1936, in Houston, the daughter of Ollie Rowe “O. R.” and Lydia Mae (Williams ) Wimberly, who have preceded her in death. Kathleen attended Stephen F. Austin High School, and on November 28, 1960, she was united in marriage to A. B. Cockroft at Epworth Methodist Church in Houston. She later worked for Trans Texas Airline, then became a full-time homemaker. Kat always loved music and theater arts, and was an instructor in tap, ballet, jazz dance and gymnastics. She was co-owner of Marleen-Kathleen Dance Studio in Angleton, Texas for many years. She and A.B. moved to Groesbeck where they lived approximately 15 years, during which, she was the choreographer and director of the Red Stocking Follies for several years. After she and A.B. retired, they moved from Groesbeck to the Battle Lake Golf Course at Mart. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, A. B. Cockroft of Mart, who has been the love of her life. Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Marcella Cockroft of Groesbeck; children and their spouses, Craig and Kelli Peevey of St. Thomas, U.S.V.I, Kim Davenport of Alvin, Jett Cockroft of Mart, and Barbee A. and Eric Jeanson of Sugar Land, Jock and Cindy Cockroft of Grapevine, Jay and Jo Ellen Cockroft of Helotes, and Mary Kay and Ted Delgado of Plano; eight grandchildren, their spouses and one great granddaughter, Austin “Kitt” Christopher Peevey, Ajaleina Rose Peevey, Kaysie and Paul Braak, Bodie Wayne Ostrander, Jeremy Cockroft, Jason and Vanessa Cockroft, Jonathan Cockroft, Sarah Jane and Joseph Olah and their daughter Samantha Jayne Olah; two sisters, Rosemary Cavitt and husband George of Rosharon and Linda Cooper and husband R.M. “Mike” Cooper of Alvin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. We the family wish to express a heart felt “Thank-You” to the staff of Providence Hospice for all the care that was administered to her.
