Curtis Donovan Plummer

Curtis Donovan Plummer, of Bremond, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 at Providence Hospice Place in Waco, at age 87. Visitation will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 23, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Kosse, with Rev. Jack Wren officiating. Burial will follow in the Plummer Cemetery at Kickapoo (7 miles NE of Groesbeck.) Curtis was born in the Kickapoo Community on January 9, 1928 to Orion Wilmer Plummer and Lillian Edith Gant Plummer. He attended schools at Kickapoo, Box Church, and Groesbeck High School. Curtis enlisted in the U. S. Navy at Dallas and served from May 12, 1945 through 1946, on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Ranger; then enlisted again October 23, 1950 through July 30, 1951 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He served a total of 2 years as a First Class Seaman. Curtis was united in marriage with Frances Wardlow Plummer on October 23, 1953 in Franklin. He lived most of his adult life near Bremond, and worked as a signalman for T & MO –Southern Pacific Railroad, retiring after 42 years on the railroad. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen, Local #99. Of his many interests, Curtis was a pilot with his own small plane at one time, and also was a ham radio operator. Curtis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kosse and enjoyed serving his church. Mr. Plummer was preceded in death by his parents, Orion and Lillian Plummer; his first wife, Mona Lee Gulihur; his second wife, Frances Plummer; step-daughter, Gayle Timmons; step-son, Walter Richardson; brothers, Orion W. (Koochie) Plummer, Jr., and Harold Plummer; sister, Ima Plummer; and a granddaughter, Rene Timmons. He is survived by a son, Donald Leaon Cowan of Terrell; step-son, Johnny Marcell Richardson, Sr. of Bremond; grandsons, Johnny Richardson, Jr. of Gatesville and Stanley Richardson of Giddings and granddaughter, Kim Richardson of Giddings; sister, Mrs. Dorothy L. Armstrong of San Antonio; brother, G. A. (Allison) Plummer of Dallas; nephews, Perry Plummer of Mesquite and Jerry Plummer of Forney; and many other extended family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made per Mr. Plummer’s wishes, to the First Baptist Church of Kosse.
