Michael Delaney Doughtie, former resident of Houston and most recently resident of Sulphur Springs, passed away in Tyler on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at age 63. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Tracy Sims officiating. Burial will follow in the Thornton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Ponder, Blake Doughtie, Lane Doughtie, Justin Doughtie, Danny Saling, and Dr. Darryl Doughtie. Michael was born July 5, 1951 to Calvin Howell Fox Doughtie and Betty Jo (Hudson) Doughtie in Groesbeck. He grew up in Houston, graduating from Galena Park High School. Michael lived all his life in Houston, until recently. He was a postal clerk for the U. S. Postal Service, working the longest part of his career in the George Bush Post Office in the George Bush Airport. He retired in 2010 after a thirty-two year career. Michael was united in marriage with Susan Gail Planter on December 29, 2003 in Houston, and was preceded in death by Susan in May 2014. Michael and Susan had a beloved Labra Doodle, Bailey, who remained Michael’s closest comfort and companion. Michael enjoyed professional sports, especially the Houston Astros and Rockets. He had suffered extensive health problems for the past four years, and moved to Sulphur Springs recently to be near family. Michael is survived by his mother, Betty Jo Brown of Sulphur Springs; his father, Calvin Doughtie of Florida; daughters, Jennifer Lunsford of Lufkin, Jessica Ponder and husband David of Lufkin; son, Justin Michael Doughtie of Huntsville; daughter, Joanna Dyess of Huffman; step daughter, Jennifer Kay Rosenbaum and husband Jason on Fairborn, OH; seven grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Darry Doughtie, MD and Dr. Laura Kosub Doughtie, MD; a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and others; and his beloved pet, Bailey.
