Billie Ruth Turner

July 25, 1927 — April 10, 2015

Billie Ruth (Thompson) Turner, of Lake Limestone, passed away in Weatherford on Friday, April 10, 2015. Funeral Services were held Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Old Union Church (at the Cemetery location), with Brother Glenn Easterly of the Church of Christ at Old Union officiating. Phil Koester, who Mrs. Turner loved to hear sing, was the vocalist with treasured hymns. Pallbearers were Ben Lewis, Jake Lewis, Josh Mendez, Eli Freitas, Aedan Freitas, Caleb Lewis, Jason Clevenger, and Ronnie Freitas. Billie Ruth was born in rural Limestone County, Texas on July 25, 1927, to Earl and Ruth (Richardson) Thompson. Billie Ruth was united in marriage with Lloyd Holvys Turner on August 8, 1944. They lived in the Farmers Branch area many years, and she worked a few years in the Carrollton School District. After Holvys retired he and Billie Ruth made their home near the dam at Lake Limestone and had many relatives and friends in the community. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ at Old Union. Billie Ruth was a dear sweet lady who loved the Lord, dedicated her life to her husband and children and grandchildren, and still found love to share with all she came in contact with. She and Holvys had a lovely home where they loved to invite friends. She had artistic and decorating skills, as well as being an expert seamstress, and he had woodworking skills, and together they made many decorative wooden and fabric home décor items, as were popular in Country Decorating magazines. Wooden shelves, and cute rabbits, and quilts and pillows and many more items kept them very busy as long as Holvys was able to work. After losing Holvys, Mrs. Turner continued serving others as a volunteer at Limestone Medical Center and also worked with little children as a volunteer in the Head Start classrooms. Not only did she brighten the day for those she visited with, she made many quilts to sell for fundraisers. Her signature quilts were throws and quilts made from old blue-jeans, which she started making for her grandsons when they were little. It was her delight to use her hands and her sewing machine to make these for anyone, especially for cancer patients and the hospital gift shop. Billie Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and a baby brother, Kenneth Thompson. She lost the love of her life when her husband passed away in 1996, and she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Missy Lewis in 2001. Mrs. Turner is survived by a daughter, Sherron Clevenger of Lewisville; a grandson, Jason Clevenger and wife, Krissi of Lewisville; a granddaughter, Jenni Freitas and husband Ronnie of Edmond, Oklahoma; a grandson, Benjamin Lewis and wife Chelsea of Weatherford; a grandson, Jacob Lewis and wife Haley of Ft. Worth; a brother, Jack Thompson and wife Frances "Boots" of Thornton; and a brother John Thompson and wife Dorothy of Thornton.
