Mary Elizabeth Chastain of Groesbeck passed away Monday August 10, 2015 at Limestone Medical Center. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM on Friday August 21, 2015 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Nance officiating. Her family honored her request to be cremated. Mary was born on November 16, 1934 in Cartersville, GA to Carl and Annie (Ayres) Davis and she was the youngest of 12 siblings. She was a business woman in Houston for 55 years as an accountant for several worldwide corporations before moving to Lake Limestone in 2003 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. That same year she petitioned the National Red Hatter’s Association and was granted a license. She named it the Limestone County Yellow Rose Red Hatter’s. Its members, years to present, reached 35 ladies who referred to her as Queen Mary. She attended the United Methodist Church of Groesbeck and honored the name of the Lord throughout her life. Mary was also an avid reader and an excellent cook. She enjoyed decorating and visits from neighbors and friends. Her humor and quick wit endeared her to all. She is preceded in death by both parents and grandchildren Stuart and Eric. Mary is survived by her daughter Vicki Shelton and husband Gary of Groesbeck and son Dennis and Denise Chastain of Humble; grandsons Randy and Cecil; granddaughters Jennifer, Hayley, Angela and Linsey. In Texas she is survived by several great-grandchildren and in Georgia numerous nieces and nephews who all loved her.
