Sylvia Sue Thompson, of Mexia, passed away at Parkview Regional Hospital on Friday, May 20, 2016, at age 80. Visitation will be Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, May 23, 2016, with Pastor Spain Trask of the First Assembly of God of Teague and her brother, Alan Youngblood, officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bruce Anderson, Dennis Chandler, Paul Edge, Shawn Phillips, Ben Hardin, and Ron Jackson. The great grandsons and nephews will be honorary pallbearers. Sue was born June 28, 1935 to Irving Randolph Youngblood and Irene Elizabeth Parks Youngblood in Morgan, Texas. She grew up in Morgan until the family moved to Fort Worth while she was in High School. Sue was united in marriage with B. W. Thompson in Fort Worth on November 14, 1953, and they continued to live in Fort Worth and Dallas for four more years, until moving to his home community of Farrar in Limestone County. After many years in the country, they moved to Mexia. Sue decided while working for Dr. McGee in Mart to become a nurse, and went to nursing school in Marlin. She worked as a nurse in the hospital in Groesbeck for the next twenty years until retiring. Sue and B.W. loved to travel, beginning with a six-week trip in Alaska in a pickup and camper in 1965. After that, they were regular travelers. They kept in touch with friends Dorothy and Clarence in Ohio through the years with trips between their homes in Ohio and Texas. They were members of the Lone Star Sams RV Club out of Houston, and made monthly meetings with their RV friends. They continued to have many nice trips and enjoy their friends. Sue was a member of the First Assembly of God of Teague. Sue was preceded in death by her mother and father, Irene and Irving Youngblood; infant daughter, Marilyn Thompson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, W. C. and Cara Thompson; and a brother, Dennis Youngblood. She is survived by her husband, B. W. Thompson of Mexia; daughter, Debbie Phillips of Mexia; brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Barbara Youngblood of Mena, Arkansas; grandson, Shawn Phillips of Farrar; great grandsons, Cole Phillips, Wyatt Phillips, and Luke Phillips of Farrar; eight nieces and six nephews; special friend, Bruce Anderson of Mexia; and Smokey Joe Thompson, her “furry son.”
