LaVada Pearl McDaniel Toomer

LaVada Pearl McDaniel Toomer, of Groesbeck, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at age 72, from sudden illness. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, June 8, 2009, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Joe Tucker of the First Assembly of God of Thornton, and Reverend Mark Tilotta of Groesbeck First Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will follow at the Cobb Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charlie McDaniel, Donte Asberry, James Vincent, J. R. Norris, David McDaniel, Jr., and Jonathan Beene. Honorary pallbearers are Ryan Leonard, Tony Provencal, Jr., John McDaniel, Jr., John Diaz, and Ricky Norman. All of the pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Toomer’s grandsons or husbands of her granddaughters. Mrs. Toomer was born on December 7, 1936, to James Edward McDaniel and Beulah LaGatha (Sellers) McDaniel at Belton, Texas. She grew up the oldest of six children, in Belton, where she attended school. She was united in marriage with William Paul McDaniel, Sr., in Belton, and they moved to Groesbeck around 1954, where they raised their six children. Mr. McDaniel preceded Lavada in death on December 14, 1975. LaVada was later married to J. C. Toomer, who also preceded her in death on May 27, 2001. LaVada spent her life as a homemaker, raising her children, and loving her grandchildren. She was a very faithful member of the Groesbeck First Assembly of God Church, and had always believed in God with all her heart. She considered it her dedicated duty in life to raise her children in a good Christian home. LaVada was preceded in death by her parents, a son John McDaniel, Sr.; her husbands Paul McDaniel and J. C. Toomer; and brother, Tommy McDaniel and sister, Betty Joyce Waller. She is survived by three sons, Charles McDaniel and wife Brenda of Groesbeck, David McDaniel, Sr. and wife, Valerie of Waco, and Paul McDaniel, Jr. and wife Sharon, of Temple; and two daughters, Julie Provencal and husband Tony of Groesbeck, and Barbara Jeffery of Groesbeck. Also surviving are her two sisters, Jackie Olson and husband Robert of Winslow, Arkansas and Shirley Fowler and husband Ronnie of Kittery, Maine; and her brother, David McDaniel and wife Lanette of Alexander, Arkansas. She is the grandmother of the following 15 grandchildren: Charlie McDaniel, Rachel McDaniel, Melody McDaniel, John Edward McDaniel, Jr., Sabrina Ann McDaniel, Amanda Norris, Rebecca Diaz, David McDaniel, Jr., Eva Vincent, Margaret Asberry, Anthony Provencal, Jr., Sarah Provencal, Jonathan Beene, Patricia Norman, and Santana McDaniel; and 11 great grandchildren.
