John McKelvey of Kosse passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 at his home. A memorial service honoring John's life will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 1PM in the First Baptist Church of Kosse with Rev. Jack Wren officiating. Fellowship with the family and community members will be held following the service. John was born April 18, 1944 in Seattle, WA to Richard Brinton and Marion May (Lindstrom) McKelvey. John was a member of the armed services and served in the Vietnam War in intelligence. He became a husband, father and self-employed carpenter on his return from military service. John enjoyed the country life, being in nature, fishing, hunting arrowheads, internet browsing and making friends as he rode his bike around town and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kosse. He is preceded in death by his parents Richard Brinton and Marion Lillian (Lindstrom McKelvey of Tigard (Portland), Oregon and a sister, Laura. John is survived by his 3 children, Debbie McKelvey, Jenny Waldrep and Steven McKelvey of Houston; grandchildren, Layna and Brenten Waldrep of Houston; brother, Shane McKelvey, sister-in-law Molly McKelvey, niece Katie McKelvey and nephew Kieran McKelvey of Portland, Oregon and many friends and neighbors of the Kosse community.
