Mayer Lee "May" Rainer, of Groesbeck, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at the Windsor Healthcare Residence, at age 94. Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Horn Hill Cemetery, with Brother Richard Williams officiating. May was born October 27, 1914 at Groveton, Texas, to Luther J. Rainer and Emma Lee Cook Rainer. She worked in Houston for the Nabisco Company for many years before moving back to Groesbeck. She was a member of the Church of Christ. May loved music and often sang "classic Country" and gospel songs while she was working at home. She still enjoyed actively playing with her great great nieces and nephews later in her life, and always enjoyed the simple things in life like chasing butterflies and grasshoppers, feeding birds, raising chickens, gardening, and picking flowers. Before entering the nursing home a few years ago, she told her great niece, "Don't cry for me when I'm gone; I've lived a good life and I did what I wanted to do." Mayer was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Gus Davis Rainer, R. V. Rainer, George Rainer, Robert Lee Rainer, Sr.; and her sisters, Mary Ella Mobley, and Sinda Dossey. She is survived by her great niece, Sandra Longenbaugh of Groesbeck and nephew, Robert Lee Rainer, Jr. of Groesbeck, and many other nieces and nephews.
