M.J. Raymond, Jr., age 78, of Groesbeck passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 in Providence Hospital in Waco following a brief illness. M.J. was born August 5, 1938 in Gary, Indiana to Martin James, Sr. and Rose Mary (Thompson) Raymond. M.J. married Sue Donaldson June 19, 1958 in Ontario, California and moved to Teague and lived there for 40 years and then moved to Groesbeck in 2007 after over 40 years of practice as a self-employed professional land surveyor, a profession which he entered into during his engagement with the U.S. Marine Corps. He served as a Freestone County Reserve Deputy for 20 years. M.J. honorable served our country in the US Marines from 1956-1959. M.J. and Sue lived most of their life raising their family, running their business, raising cows, and enjoying the blessings of life, family and friends. M.J. was a loving and caring husband and father and devoted his life to assisting family and friends. M.J. was preceded in death by his parents. M.J. is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sue Raymond of Groesbeck; sons, Kirk Raymond and wife Jana of Groesbeck and Marc Raymond of Teague; daughter, Cyndee Waller and husband Bob of Groesbeck; grandchildren, Kara Raymond Cook, David Raymond, Merrie Jo Raymond Sellstrom, Lyndsey Mae Raymond, Marcus Raymond, Cash Waller and Mitchell Waller and eight great-grandchildren. The family is honoring M.J.’s request to be cremated and will have a private celebration of his life at one of his favorite spots amongst the cattle and his ranch.
