Eddie Medders of Groesbeck passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at his home in Groesbeck. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Pearson of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Faulkenberry Cemetery. Pallbearers will be R. T. Beck, Charles Mangum, Jim Mangum, Tom Boggio, Jerry Collins, and Mark Zeman. Eddie was born June 20, 1951 to William Alvis and Dorothy Nell (Wright) Medders in Dr. Edgar’s Hospital in Mexia. He grew up in Groesbeck and graduated from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1969. Eddie attended TSTI in Waco where he became trained in heavy equipment diesel mechanics. Eddie thought he might like to live in Hawaii where his brother Larry was but soon decided to return to Groesbeck. He worked most of his life for Lone Star Gas (which later became TXU), living in Corsicana and Cleburne. He retired after working for Tepsco, a contractor for TXU, where he had been a supervisor of the propane division. Eddie moved back to Groesbeck around 2006, and worked as a bus mechanic for Groesbeck ISD for the next eight years. He retired from the school, but was not completely retired, as he had many people in town needing him to work on their lawn mowers. He kept as busy as he wanted in this sideline of work. He also was always ready to be his Mom’s handyman for anything she needed. He told her his pay was sitting at her table with her good meals, especially her coconut pie and he thought she made the best “bimento-cheese” of anyone. He told his sister he expected her to learn to make the coconut pies before his Mom’s time to go to “Pie Heaven.” Eddie had heart surgery when he was 42 years old, and had an active life for the next twenty-three years. He will be lovingly missed by his family and friends. Eddie was preceded in death by his father, Alvis Medders; his grandparents, Earl and Ruth Wright and James and Venus Medders; his aunts and uncles, Don Wright, Elmore Medders, Louise Holloway, J.D. Medders and James Earl Medders; step-father, Edgar “Junior” White; and his brother, Larry Medders (in 2014). He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Medders of Groesbeck; his sister and brother-in-law, Cathy Joan and James Mangum of Plano; nephew and wife, Charles and Melissa Mangum of Killeen; great nephew, Wesley Mangum and great niece, Kassidy Mangum of Killeen; uncle and aunt, Joy G. and Virginia Wright of Groesbeck; aunt, Sue Wright of Grand Prairie; step-brother, Kenneth and wife Cathy White of Huffman; step-sister, Gloria Bryant of Houston; and numerous step-nieces and nephews.
