Joan Carolyn James, age 69, who formerly lived in Groesbeck, passed away at Corsicana at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, following a lengthy illness. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, until time for services to begin in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with David McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Faulkenberry Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Branson James, Zackary James, Nick Chamberlin, Travis Chamberlin, Ethan Chamberlin, and Taz Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Williams, Steven Shields, Marvin Krauss, Bryan Bradley, Jimmy Bradley, and Kelly Kilpatrick. Joan was born November 14, 1947 to Elra Laymon Faulkner and Alma Evelyn (Stephens) Faulkner in Harrisburg, Arkansas. She was united in marriage with Paul James on January 7, 1963 in Truman, Arkansas. They lived in Arkansas and California before moving to Texas in 1972. Paul was hired by Alvis Medders to work on Bradley’s Circle J Ranch, and after Mr. Medders retired, they lived on the ranch for the next twenty-seven years. Joan was a member of Living Proof Church in Groesbeck and she and Paul were active participants in church projects. Joan had worked at the Groesbeck Sewing Factory for a time and then devoted her to time to being a wife, mother and homemaker. She loved going to garage sales, reading, crocheting and all crafts, and playing board games with the family. She had a great sense of humor. After her husband passed away and with poor health, she moved to Corsicana to live with her son and daughter-in-law, who was like her own daughter, Bryan and Lori. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Laymon and Evelyn; her husband Paul James (2014); and brother, Richard Faulkner (2017.) She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Lori James of Corsicana; grandson and wife, Branson and Madison James of Mexia; granddaughter and husband, Rebekah and Taz Martinez of Italy, TX., grandson, Zackary James of Corsicana; step-mother, Dorothy Faulkner of Harrisburg, Arkansas; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Marvin Krauss of Harrisburg, AR; brother, Doug Faulkner of Jonesboro, AR; great grandchildren, Bryan, Bradley, and Bryley James of Mexia and Loralie and Kinzlie Martinez of Italy; and several nieces and nephews.
