Tommie Lee Hastings, of Groesbeck (Lake Limestone) passed away Friday, May 5, 2017, in Waco, at age 83. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at the Church of Christ in Groesbeck, with Brother Richard Williams and Brother Clifton Fox officiating. Mrs. Barbara Walker will be the vocalist. Burial will follow in Cox Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommie Hastings, Jr., Jason Hardin, Ricky Clark, Ronnie Ayres, Jr, Jeremy Kight, and Ryan Hardin. Honorary pallbearer is Ray O'Docharty. Tommie was born to Alvis Lee Hastings and Ida Belle Alexander Hastings in Groesbeck. He grew up and attended school in Groesbeck. He served four years in the Air Force Military Police from 1952 through 1956. Tommie retired from the Houston Police Department after serving 25 years. He was a Sergeant at the time of retirement. Tommie was a member of the Groesbeck Church of Christ. He was a 55 year member of East Houston Masonic Lodge No. 1199 and a member of Groesbeck Masonic Lodge No. 354. He was also a member of Groesbeck Chapter No. 810, Order of the Eastern Star. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Edith Pinkerton. Tommie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bessie Rulf Hastings; three daughters: Donna Carter and husband Jimmy Carter of Kirvin, TX., Rhonda Whitehead of Houston, TX, and Connie Kight and husband Walter Kight of New Orleans, LA.; one son, Tommie Lee Hastings, Jr. and wife, Veronica Hastings of San Antonio, TX.; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; plus many extended family and friends.
