Eleanor Learline Beevers

December 2, 1927 — May 24, 2017

Eleanor Learline Beevers, former resident of Groesbeck, passed away in Palestine on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at age 89. Visitation will be in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, prior to the beginning of the Funeral Service, which will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Her granddaughter, Erin Lloyd will officiate. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brendon Thompson, Jamey Wright, Robert Lammert, Stephen Lammert, and James Lloyd. Eleanor was born December 2, 1927 to Henry and Pauline (Dawley) Armstrong in Groesbeck, one of four girls. She attended school in Box Church before the family moved to Waco, where she finished school. She worked as a telephone operator, and moved to Sante Fe with her Mom and daughter, where she met her husband, who had grown up in Sante Fe. Eleanor and Marvin Finis Beevers were united in marriage in 1950 in Bernalillo, New Mexico. They made their home in Sante Fe through 1968, when they moved to Waco. She was always able to find work as a telephone operator wherever they were living, even working for answering services. After her husband retired in 1970, they moved to Groesbeck to be near her mother and sisters. Eleanor never met a stranger and enjoyed talking with people. She had a clothing store in Groesbeck for a period of time (“Eleanor’s” which was located in the shopping center near Shultz Pharmacy.) She really enjoyed her interaction with the customers. She also at various times sold Avon, Amway, and Tupperware - all occasions in which she enjoyed talking with people. Also, she regularly enjoyed visiting people in the nursing homes, and going to garage sales. She collected figurines of elves during her shopping. She was a skilled “haggler” in shopping even in the big stores like J.C. Penney. She also enjoyed playing penny slot machines. Eleanor was a great cook, passing down memories of blackberry cobbler and many recipes to family. She was the beloved matriarch of her family. After her husband of 62 years passed away in 2012, she moved to Palestine to be near her family the next year. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her three sisters: Ruth Massey, Marie Hill, and Mary St. Pierre; a daughter, Rosemary Sellers; a grandson, Jerry Beevers; and her husband Marvin in 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Lammert of Palestine; daughter, Kimberly Haught of Palestine; son, Wayne Beevers of Palestine; daughter and son-in-law, Velma and Jerry Thursby of Palestine; ten grandchildren: Robert Lammert of Palestine, Stephen and wife J. J. Lammert of Elkhart, Kristy and husband Jamey Wright of Palestine, Eleanor Haught of Palestine, Shawn and wife Rosie Haught of Fort Stockton, Joseph and wife Lisa Lloyd of Los Alamos, NM, James and wife LaDonna Lloyd of Dallas, Erin Lloyd and wife Vanessa Garcia of Dallas, Jason and wife Bobbie Beevers of Hawaii, Amber and husband Imants Pone of Minnesota; fourteen great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
