Santos Luera Johnson

Santos Luera Johnson of Groesbeck, passed away at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at age 84. A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, August 4, 2017, with family and friends invited to gather earlier at 12:00 Noon for visitation, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Daniel Ramirez of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Mexia will conduct the Mass. A private family burial will be held in Cobb Cemetery in the future. Santos was born December 18, 1932 to Sostenes and Paula Luera in Yorktown, Texas. She had lived in Groesbeck since the seventies. She worked hard not only in taking care of her family, but was also famous for her homemade tamales which she sold to the public. She never met a stranger and welcomed all who walked into her home, making them feel like family. She was a Catholic all her life. Santos was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Johnson in 2004; her sister, Paula Rosales; and great grandchild, Madison Faith Hill in 2017. She is survived by her six children and their spouses: son, Leon and Sherry Salinas of Wortham; son, Freddy and Chrystal Salinas of Oklahoma; son, Rual and Elaine Salinas of Silsbee; son, David and Martha Salinas of Lubbock; daughter, Susie and Bill Hess of Goldsboro, North Carolina; daughter, Diana Hill and Jorge Del Rio of Mexia and Francis Torres of Waco; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and her brother, Freddy Luera of Lubbock.
