Grady Keith Humphres of Sherman, Texas passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at the age of 94. He was born on January 27, 1923 in Kosse (Robertson County), Texas. Graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Ebenezer Cemetery, Limestone County. A gathering with light refreshments will be held from 10-11 AM at Groesbeck Funeral Home and the funeral procession will depart from Groesbeck Funeral Home at 11 AM. At Grady’s request, no flowers please. Like many young men of his generation, Grady knew he had but two options for his life. He could stay at home and work the farm or join the military. Thus began a 20 year career serving in the US Navy as a 1st Class Bugle Master and the US Air Force as a military police officer. Grady loved the military and felt that his greatest accomplishment in life was his service to his country. After his retirement from the Air Force in 1966, he embarked on a second career as a health inspector with the City of San Antonio, retiring in the mid-1980’s. Only in recent years did he put away his meat thermometer. It was after his retirement from the City of San Antonio that he met and married Marjorie Ann Sierra and together they extensively travelled the United States and volunteered for causes important to them. Also, with her encouragement, Grady returned to music and wrote poetry that was published. We will miss his humor and affection. He is preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Susan Jean Morris; his parents, Guy Townsend Humphres and Moselle Tidwell Humphres and sister, Linda Ann Humphres Lyon. Grady is survived by devoted wife Marjorie Sierra Humphres of Sherman, his daughter Kay Andresen and husband David; grandchildren, Dawn Garza, William Cody Morris, Keith David Andresen and wife Rebecca and Jon Rolf Andresen; as well as four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Mrs. Humphres’ daughters Susan Sierra Foster and husband James and Lisa Sierra Campagna and husband Anthony.
