Granval Jason Nance graced this earth on February 2, 1921. He departed on 10/26/2017 at the age of 96. He is preceded in death by his parents, Irbie and Mamie Nance; Sisters, Janice Richardson, Geneva Denman, Sarah Allen; mother of his children, Janell Nance; daughter, Linda Sweeney; and his wife, Ora Nance. He is survived by his daughter, Glenda Hickham of Manvel, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Michelle Nance of Thornton; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Sue Nance of Alvin, Texas; stepdaughter and son-in-law Laqueta and Don Posey of Fairfield, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; sisters Martha Angle and Mary McBay; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Granval was a gentleman who lived his life by Christian values. He was a loving son, brother, husband, dad and grandad, as well as a loyal friend. After family, his love was the United States Navy. He retired as a Lt. Commander after serving for a combined 38 years. He was very proud of his 32nd Degree Mason status within the Shriners’ organization and was involved in the VFW located in Jewett, Texas for several years. Although our hearts are aching, we celebrate that he is with his Lord and Savior. He lit a light in so many lives during thisjourney we call life. Those lights continue to shine on through those who share his memory, generosity and love. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., with visitation beginnign at 1:00 P.M., on Sunday, October 29, 2017, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Glen Easterly of the Old Union Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in Thornton Cemetery, with military honors by the U. S. Navy. Pallbearers will be Nathan Nance, Robbie Nance, T.J. Sweeney, Michael Posey, Dan German and Wade Cooper.
