Charles Mack Ogden, Jr., of Groesbeck, passed away at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, following a lengthy battle with cancer, on Tuesday, October 20, 2009. He was 77. Visitation will be Thursday, October 22, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, October 23, 2009, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Bill Sutton officiating. Burial will follow at Cobb Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles “Bubba” Sutton, Darren Vestal, Andy Ferguson, Michael Ferguson, Matthew Ferguson, and Dusty White. Mr. Ogden was born on October 13, 1932, to Charles Mack Ogden and Carolyn Pinno Ogden at Belton, TX. He grew up and attended school in the Riesel and Mart area. Charles joined the U. S. Air Force in 1952 and served until 1956, where he was stationed primarily in California. While in the Air Force, Charles was united in marriage with Patsy Sue Storm on June 5, 1954 at Waco. After the military, Charles worked for Suburban Homes in Houston for many years, and later owned cabinet shops in Mexia and Fort Worth. Charles and Pat moved to Groesbeck in 1981, where he was a home builder, until he retired from construction in 1997. He then began his new career as a farmer, and also did custom hay baling. Charles and Pat were active members of the Heart of Texas Farmers Market in Waco for nine years, selling produce they grew on their ten acres on Red Hill. Charles was known locally for the picante sauce he made. Charles and Pat celebrated their 55th. anniversary together while he was a patient in Hillcrest this summer. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, James Ogden and Bobby Ogden. He is survived by his wife, Pat Ogden; daughter, Brenda Ferguson and husband Tim of Groesbeck; son, Glenn Ogden of Groesbeck; daughter, Patti Vestal and husband Tom of Groesbeck; eight grandchildren, Kristi Sutton of Deer Park, Charles (Bubba) Sutton of Mart, Darren Vestal of Groesbeck, Dana Vestal of Groesbeck, Andy Ferguson of Waco, Michael Ferguson of Axtell, Matthew Ferguson of Axtell, and Joanne Gilliam of Waco; one great grandson, Zachary Ferguson of Waco; two brothers, Billie H. Ogden of Midlothian and Lee Owen Ogden and wife Celia of San Marcos; and three sisters, Dorothy Jobe and husband Alton of Arlington, Betsy Heath and husband Jewell of Decatur, and Helen Connally and husband Leslie of Belton. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Kent Petty, Dr. Carl Chakmakjian, and Dr. Brian White, and Texas Oncology, and everyone at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital of Waco.
