Brooklyn Nicole Wilson

Brooklyn Nicole Wilson, of Groesbeck, passed away Thursday, November 9 at Children’s Medical Center, in Dallas, at age 19. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 11, 2017 in the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck, with Dr. Tod Tanner officiating. Mrs. Emily Wilson Wolfe will provide music. Burial will follow in Fort Parker Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Chandler Boyd, Brayden Bradley, Coach Steve Hale, Chris Rand, Dylan Rand, and Mark Smith. Brooklyn struggled with health issues for the last few years of her life, ultimately resulting in the need for a liver transplant. After much prayer by family, friends and an entire community, she was the recipient of a new liver. Although the surgery was unsuccessful, Brooklyn’s family is grateful to everyone that prayed for that liver to come and to the doctors, nurses and staff at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas for their attempts to lengthen her life. Brooklyn now is free from all discomfort and suffering with no need for doctor’s visits, hospital stays and new procedures. God gave Brooklyn the greatest family, friends and community of praying supporters to take care of her and love her through her nineteen years with them, and now she is surrounded by the love of her Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus Christ. Those who loved her dearly, and even those who only barely knew her, can rejoice in her gain, and will keep her alive in their hearts through the memories of her happiest days and greatest pleasures. Brooklyn was born to Richard Scott Wilson and Brandye Mauldin Wilson on April 2, 1998 in Austin. Her greatest joy was being the big sister of Bradley Wilson and Zachary Wilson. The family moved back to their hometown of Groesbeck in 2002 when Brooklyn was four, and she has been known and loved by this community ever since. Brooklyn was a member of First Baptist Church of Groesbeck and loved to attend church, worship her God, and then follow with lunch visits with friends. Brooklyn attended Groesbeck schools and loved her school family. Some of Brooklyn’s happiest days were attending her brothers sporting events. She was always ready to cheer for her brothers, and their friends, and never wanted to miss any of their games. Her energy in supporting them was a joy to all those around her. She was known around school and to those attending games as the Goats #1 fan and loved singing the school song and raising her finger in the air to show her love for her GOATS. While at Groesbeck High School, Brooklyn enjoyed serving the staff and working in the library, keeping everybody on task. Born with Down Syndrome, she never let her disabilities keep her from being the best she could be. Although she would always tell you exactly what she was thinking and everybody had to endure the occasional “No,”, Brooklyn brought joy to the lives of those around her. There was nothing better to brighten your day than getting a hug from Brooklyn. Recently, Brooklyn was nominated as Homecoming Queen for Groesbeck High School. Being elected by the entire student body shows what Brooklyn meant to the people around her. The number one fan of the Groesbeck Goats was honored on the field with her parents and brothers by her side and the whole crowd cheering for her just as she has cheered on her Goats for her entire life. Brooklyn is survived by her parents, Scott and Brandye Wilson of Groesbeck; brothers, Bradley Wilson and Zachary Wilson of Groesbeck; paternal grandparents, Dale and Johnnie Wilson of Groesbeck; maternal grandparents, Jack and Patricia Mauldin, Jr. of Groesbeck; uncles and aunts, Todd and Charlotte Amick of Tehuacana and Jeff and Annie Melasky of Groesbeck; numerous cousins and many other extended family. Donations in memory of Brooklyn may be made to either the Groesbeck Athletic Booster Club or the Groesbeck Education Foundation (Brooklyn Wilson Scholarship.) She would want everyone to continue to support the groups she loved so much, her GOATS.
