Roberta Charlene (Favors) Nelson, of Mexia, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017, at the Skilled Nursing Care of Mexia, at age 77. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 27, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 28, 2017, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Kim Songy of Ennis officiating. Burial will follow in Cobb Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clantzy Ballard, Jacob Rawlinson, Tim Barco, Bobby Gore, Kenneth Hanssard and Leo Dixon. Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Sours and Tony Estrada. Roberta was born June 17, 1940 to Charles Monroe Favors and Erma Ruth Favors at Davis Prairie. She attended school in Thornton. After school years, she obtained her GED and a certificate in child care development and opened the Groesbeck Day Care Center, which she operated for about seven years. She was united in marriage with Carl Sanders, Jr. in 1957 and they lived at Oletha. After closing the day care, she worked at the Mexia State School and later had R&S Cleaning Service. Later in life, on June 10, 1989, Roberta married Jesse Nelson. They lived in Ennis and Denton until 1993, when they moved to Kerrville. While living in Kerrville, she worked as a teacher’s aid and at the Kerrville State School until retiring. In 2005, they returned to Limestone County and lived near Oletha before moving back to Kerrville in 2015. They remained there until she recently moved to the Skilled Nursing Care of Mexia. Roberta was baptized January 14, 1961 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Roberta loved her God Jehovah and loved teaching God’s Word, the Bible. She loved caring for children and also caring for all her elderly family members. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Joy Louise Foreman. She is survived by her husband, Jesse Nelson of Kerrville; her children: Donnie and wife Karen Sanders of Groesbeck; Janet and husband Billie Ridge of Groesbeck; Hope Rawlinson of Thornton; Christopher Sanders of Groesbeck; Melody and husband Bobby Gore of Kerrville and Jared Nelson of Austin. Her thirteen grandchildren are: Krystle and husband Raj Gandhi, Jeremy Rawlinson, Kali and husband Tim Barco, Rachel and husband Clantzy Ballard, Jacob Rawlinson, Ryan Nelson, Shelby Sanders, Tesiah Sanders, Betty Jean Sanders, Christen Joy Sanders, Justin Thomas Sanders, Monica Gore and Braden Gore; and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Sidney and Pattie Favors of Groesbeck; sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Lyndon Cate of Lake Limestone; brother and sister-in-law, David and Rose Mary Favors of Thornton; and many nieces and nephews.
